Intercessions for Sunday 21 November 2021
We pray for the church and for the world. Today, we pray especially for Fr Simon as he prepares to be our vicar and we give thanks for the many people who have kept our spiritual life so lively and relevant during the interregnum: the visiting clergy who have officiated at our services; Sarah, our lay minister; our pastoral assistants, Vivette, Amanda and Boachie as well as Eckart and the other members of the worship team; our church wardens, Jay and all the members of our PCC; Romee and the musicians who have played so beautifully in our services.
Lord, in your mercy….
Lord, look in your mercy upon the world you loved so much that you sent your Son to suffer and to die. We pray for the world, for the places in the world where there is conflict and hold in our hearts especially the people of Afghanistan and Syria.
Lord, in your mercy….
Lord, you know how quickly we can move to complaining about the situations in which we find ourselves and how readily we seek people we can blame. Help us to understand that we have resources within ourselves that we can and should use to work for ourselves and for others and help us to overcome our lack of confidence in our ability to utilize these.
Lord in your mercy….
We pray for the sick, whether that sickness is of body, mind, or spirit, including those whose trust has been abused by people they love and upon whom they believed they could rely. We pray for those who are worried about the sickness of people that they love and I invite you now, in silence or aloud, to say their names………
Lord, in your mercy….
And for those who have died and we think of Sue Windross, whose funeral is tomorrow, or the anniversaries of whose deaths fall at this time, including David Herbert and Elizabeth Gregory
Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord….
Oh Lord, help us to remember that we are part of a praying community, that even when our prayer life seems difficult or challenging, you are there welcoming our attempts to talk to and to listen to you. Oh Lord, in your mercy hear our prayers now and listen for those we will utter up in the coming weeks and years.
Merciful father, accept these prayers…….
