Petertide Eucharist
27th June 2021 @ 10:00 am - 10:45 am
Sunday June 27 is Petertide, and we are delighted welcome Revd Preb Irena Edgcumbe and Revd Julia Porter-Pryce, visiting St Peter’s for the first time since her retirement in February. This will be a Communion service, with the service sheet available below (a conversation in church will take the place of the weekly sermon).
You can read a message from Julia here.

As we celebrate the life and service of our patron, St Peter, let us gather our prayers in faith and hope.
Creator Lord, we offer you our thanksgivings for the wonders of this world. Show us the way to better stewardship of all that you have given us in trust for the nurturing care of your children and our earthly habitation.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
Just as the stumbling block became the corner stone, encourage the leaders of your church towards justice, truth and mercy in their preaching and their practice.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
As we focus our thoughts on the apostle who followed the way, the truth and the life of his heavenly governor then died on a tyrant’s orders, we pray for those who suffer spiritual, moral, physical or psychological torture in today’s world. We pray that your peace and wisdom may inspire leaders in our own communities and around the world.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
Just as Peter was once Simon, a fisherman’s son, help us to hear you, Lord, when you call us to our true identity as disciples of your word in the routines and rituals of daily life.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
As we recognise ourselves in the devoted servant who once betrayed his loving master, help us to forgive ourselves and each other and to love our neighbours as you , dear Lord, love us.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
As witness to your miracles, Peter went on to heal in your name. Help us, Lord, to offer our time and talents to heal the divisions in our own families and communities, feed the hungry in our midst, bear witness and listen without prejudice or judgement to the needs of others.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
Peter, once a prisoner, was set free to continue the journey you’d prepared for him. Lord, set us free from the prisons we make for ourselves, so that we may rejoice and be glad in the true freedom of your love.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
Just as we remember the life and death of your servant Peter, let us remember by name those who have died – Stephanie’s step-brother Paul Campbell – and those whose anniversaries come at this time – Kenneth Dobson and Jesse Moses.
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord,
And may light perpetual shine upon
In silence, let us pray for those who grieve their loss and for those dear to us.
Lord, meet us in the silence
And hear our prayer
We gather our prayers with Mary, the mother of our Lord, and Peter, our patron, saying together. Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son, our saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
