HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

It is with great sadness that St Peter’s joins with the United Kingdom in mourning the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip. The Church of England provides an online Book of Condolences.
We are encouraged to pray for the Queen and the Royal Family, and for others known to us who have recently been bereaved.

Gospel Reading

John 20.19-31

John 20

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw theLord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’

But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your fingerhere and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me?Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Intercessions

Intercessions

From Liz Kohler

Let us pray for the church and for the world and let us thank God for his goodness.  We pray for our Church of St Peter de Beauvoir during this interregnum and for those who will be selecting our new Vicar.

Lord, in your mercy

Hear our prayer
We thank you, Lord, for the thoughtful and uplifting Easter services.  We give thanks for Irena and for the church that was almost full to its present capacity on Easter Sunday.  Let us remember, Lord, that you have work for us all to do.  Forgive us that we find it so easy to give up and give in; that we are so willing to follow Jesus only until he wants us to carry a cross.  But let us also remember that you will not leave us in Good Friday darkness.
Forgive us and keep us faithful to Jesus, so that our lives may be filled with his victory.

Lord, in your mercy

Hear our prayer

We pray for all the parts of the world in which there is conflict.  Help those who struggle to reach a peaceful resolution of conflict to continue even when the odds seem insurmountable.

Lord, in your mercy

Hear our prayer

We pray for the sick and for those who are worried about the sickness of people that they love whether that sickness is of body, mind, or spirit.

Lord, in your mercy

Hear our prayer

And for those who have died or the anniversaries of whose deaths fall at this time.

Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord

Be with us all, Lord, as we try to live this next week and the weeks to come in Your name.
Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your son, Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
