To get a feel for the new, simplified Sunday format at St Peter’s, scroll down this page. Although there are no sung hymns or Eucharist, the atmosphere remains sacred and restorative, and we often have beautiful live music. We hope you can join us in person.
Gathering while music is played
The Lord of all creation be with you.
The Lord bless you.
We come from scattered lives to meet with God.
Let us recognise God’s presence with us now.
Silence is kept.
As God’s people we have gathered:
let us worship God together.
This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
God of our days and years,
we set this time apart for you.
Form us in the likeness of Christ
so that our lives may glorify you.
Amen.
We come to God as one from whom no secrets are hidden,
to ask for forgiveness and peace.
Most merciful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we confess that we have sinned
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
In your mercy
forgive what we have been,
help us to amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be;
that we may do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with you, our God.
Amen.
We have not always worshipped God, our creator.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
We have not always followed Christ, our Saviour.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
We have not always trusted in the Spirit, our guide.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
May the God of love and power
forgive you and free you from your sins,
heal and strengthen you by his Spirit,
and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for St Peter
Almighty God,
who inspired your apostle Saint Peter
to confess Jesus as Christ and Son of the living God:
build up your church upon this rock,
that in unity and peace it may proclaim one truth
and follow one Lord, your son our saviour, Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever
Amen.
Let us declare our faith in God.
We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us
with power from on high.
We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Lord, meet us in the silence
and hear our prayer.
As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
Let us give thanks and praise for all God’s gifts
Silence
For birth and life and strength of body,
for safety and shelter and food,
we give you thanks:
we praise your holy name.
For sight and hearing and the beauty of nature,
for words and music and the power of thought,
we give you thanks:
we praise your holy name.
For work and leisure and the joy of achieving,
for conscience and will and depth of feeling,
we give you thanks:
we praise your holy name.
For grace and truth in Jesus Christ,
for the gifts of the Spirit and the hope of heaven,
we give you thanks:
we praise your holy name.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Jesus says to his disciples,
‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your hearts be troubled or afraid.’
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
In darkness and in light,
in trouble and in joy,
help us, heavenly Father,
to trust your love,
to serve your purpose,
and to praise your name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Lord bless you and watch over you,
the Lord make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you,
the Lord look kindly on you and give you peace;
and the blessing …
We go into the world
to walk in God’s light,
to rejoice in God’s love
and to reflect God’s glory.
Amen
