Good Friday, April 14th

On Good Friday we remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This moving service is made up of three parts: the reading of the passion according to John (18.1-19.42), followed by prayers, veneration of the cross and the reception of communion. It is a beautiful service, allowing us to feel closer to Christ, the healing love of the world, in the full knowledge that the resurrection is coming.

Good Friday is part of the Triduum; the three special days leading leading up to Easter. St Augustine called these “the holiest days of the year”. If you attended the candlelit evening meditation on Mandy Thursday, it is meaningful to follow this up the next morning with this 10am service on Good Friday.

Some Christians choose to fast on this day, in order to immerse themselves more fully in this holy time. If you are not fasting, please stay for hot cross buns in the crypt, after the service.
