Epiphany of the Lord——————————-‘On entering the house, the Magi saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure-chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.’  – Matthew 2.9 – 11——————————-On Thursday 6th January we celebrate the manifestation of Christ as God born as one of us to live a life for *all* of us! ——————————-Traditionally to mark Epiphany chalk is blessed and used to pray a prayer of blessing over our homes for the year ahead. This recalls the visit of the magi to the home in which the holy family were staying. The blessing is accompanied by writing the initials of the Magi – C M B  (Casper, Melchior and Balthazar) – on the door posts. C M B also stands for “Christus mansionem benedicat” meaning “Christ bless this house”.Blessed chalk is available for collection from the welcome table in church if you would like to pray this prayer over your own home.
